A STRANGER SO STRANGE
Old man: Where do you want to go?
I said: saswad.
Old man: soon the bus will come.
I said: Do u know the bus number?
Old man: ya its 2… are you new to this place?
I said: yes…. How long you are standing here?
Old man: since last two hours.
I gave him a questioning look!! He told me that although the six sitters or autos are going in every 5 min but it is charging 6 Rs and the bus fair is 3 Rs, so he is waiting here. I offered him 3 Rs but he gently nodded his head stating that he doesn’t need. I came to know the value of money from his bitter suffering.
Old man: where do you from?
I said: Bangalore.
And then I told him that I am doing my engineering there and came to know that he is basically a farmer. Some time we get too close with a stranger which later on made us to think on the chemistry behind it.
He put a hand on my shoulder and said you are like my son. Out of quest I asked how many children do you have? He replied I had one son and having one daughter. He was of your age. My son was having some problem in his stomach. Out of scarcity of money I didn’t took him to the doctor in spite I showed him to a Baba and he died.
As he was saying I felt his eyes getting num. I tried to change the topic by staring at the ice cream wala. He suddenly bought 2 ice creams and offered one to me.
It forced me to rethink about the sentiments; the old man must have built within these few minutes of brief conversation!! He speaks again……..
Tomorrow there is my daughter’s marriage.
“I hope if my son would be there, he would be taking these responsibilities but unfortunately, this old soul has to do all the things!!”
He then opened his bag and showed some ribbons and wedding material he bought from the market. He said, the groom’s side is asking for a heavy dowry but he is happy that his daughter is getting married. His last words were “I have finished all my responsibilities and can die in peace” made my eyes num.
The bus came; standing on the steps he turned back and shook his hand and he boarded.
“MAY BE IT WASN’T A COINCIDENCE, THE GOD MUST HAVE SEND HIM TO TEACH ME LESSONS OF LOVE AND PAIN, THE EASY WAY”
